Statistical Project Services
Your statistics project done to the highest standards of quality, ethics, and service, while you focus on your research.
At The Analysis Factor, we are on a mission to improve researchers' statistical capacity. But there are times when turning your statistics over to a professional makes sense.
Do you
- have part of a project that has to be done in an unfamiliar software package or with a specific, highly difficult statistical technique that would require months of training to complete yourself
- want the added authority of a statistician listed on a grant proposal?
- want and need a professional statistician on your team, but don’t have the space, funding, or time to hire a staff member
- never need to do statistics again, and therefore don’t need to learn them (generally graduate students in clinical fields)
I am very selective in my project work. I only work on a handful of projects at a time to ensure excellence in my work and service.
I take on projects only if they are a good fit for my statistical expertise and if I believe we can work well together. When you hire me to work on a project, I become part of your team. We can both only do excellent work if we fit well together.
I offer a free 30 minute consultation in which we you can describe your needs, your goals, your research question and data, and I can tell you your options for best meeting those needs. Call 607-539-3216 or email me to set up your free consultation.
Project Types
The Analysis Factor can help you with any of the following projects.
- Sample size calculations
- Writing statistical sections for grant proposals
- Survey, Experimental, or Questionnaire Design
- Statistical analysis
- SAS and SPSS Programming
- Preparation and revision of manuscripts
I am willing to do both large and small jobs. Need a single program written? No problem? Need ongoing help for a multiyear study? No problem.
"Karen Grace-Martin is making possible what we hope will be a landmark study of cancer survivors. We needed someone who was absolutely up-to-date and competent to help us with the data management and analysis and we got that in Karen, but also a great deal more.
Besides having a pleasant and easy-going demeanor, she provides us with a peer professional who knows how to talk to us about statistics in a down-to-earth, efficient, and yet comprehensive way. This has been important in guiding our research process, including the ever-evolving insights and conceptualizations. It is also important for the confidentiality we promise participants in our study that Karen has impecable standards of professional integrity.
As for the technical aspect of her work, Karen's conscientiousness, dependability, and competence are of the highest caliber. Finally, we appreciate her personal attention and general availability. Frankly, at this point, we don't know what we would do without her!"

Why hire me?
There are a lot of statistical consultants out there. How am I different?
First, I have always worked in academia. I know the challenges, issues, and situations academic researchers face. I have helped graduate students contend with committee members and researchers with reviewers. I know the kind of information that granting agencies want in proposals. I have submitted my own applications to human subjects committees. And because I have worked with researchers in a wide array of fields, I am aware of the different statistical conventions in different fields.
Second, I have worked with researchers with huge variation in their statistical training, experience, and understanding. One of my core strengths is in meeting clients at their level of understanding. Even if I run the analysis or write the program, it is important that you understand what I did and why. No matter what your statistical background is, I will make sure you understand.
Third, I have a strong committment to excellence in my work. I have strong convictions about ethics and privacy, both in research and in statistical analysis.
Finally, I will only work with clients with whom I can work well. While I know a lot about many areas of statistics, no statistician knows them all. Likewise, I view my project clients as partners in the success of the project. This requires that our goals, philosophy, and working style mesh well. I will happily refer you if I believe you will be better served elsewhere. So you can trust that we will be well suited if we both agree to work together.
"I have had the pleasure of working with Karen on a number of projects over the past several years and have found her assistance to be utterly invaluable. In addition to being both highly professional and very easy to work with, Karen is exceptionally skilled at translating complex statistical concepts into everyday language and in finding creative solutions to statistical and methodological challenges.
Her reliability and effectiveness make her my first choice for a statistical consultant every time. You can't get anyone better than Karen.

I have experience in a wide variety of statistical methods. Some of the methods I commonly work with are:
- Linear Regression, including model fitting, stepwise regression, interactions, hierarchical models, and multilevel (Mixed) Linear Models
- ANOVA, including repeated measures, randomized block designs, split plots, multiple comparisons and contrasts, random and fixed factors, factorial and nested designs, and interactions
- Generalized linear models, including binary logistic regression, ordinal and multinomial logistic regression, Poisson and negative binomial regression and Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE)
- Multivariate Statistics, such as MANOVA, Factor Analysis and Principal Components Analysis, discriminant analysis, and cluster analysis
- Descriptive Data Analysis and Graphing
- Nonparametric tests
- Path Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling
- Missing data, including modern techinques of Mulitple Imputation and Full Information Maximum Likelihood
- Complex Survey Analysis, including stratification, cluster sampling, and finite populations
- Sample size calculations
- Scale reliability
